Good afternoon. I am attending today’s meeting of the Oklahoma City Traffic and Transportation Commission.

I don’t know most of the members of this body, including the person repping Ward 6, JB Schuelein. I see John Milner is the At-Large member, that’s somebody I *sorta* know.
The meeting is being called to order. They had a roll call, two commissioners are not attending today.
There is a request for a traffic signal at South MacArthur and SW 8th. There is supposed to be some commercial development there and the traffic study showed that the intersection will need to be signalized.
There is a stop sign on 8th, but the cross traffic has a speed limit of 45mph, which for OKC drivers means 50+. Sw 8 is being extended and is a bond project.
The developer is here to say what they’re up to.
He says it’s essentially an extension of Westgate that’s across the interstate from there. He mentioned no businesses.
A motion to disapprove has been seconded on the recommendation of Secretary Stuart Chai. Chai says right now they aren’t developing yet and there are several signals north of where they want this.
There are signals at Reno, SW 3rd, both sides of I-40, and SW 5th.
The developer asks for continuance. He said he understands that an engineering study needs to done. He says that the signal would be part of the bond project for improving 8th.
I have a lot of friends that camp in a large tent city near there, so I think I’d have to recuse myself from this vote if I were on this commission.
Personally, I’d be fine with four way stops all over the place.
The Chair, Walt Kula of award 4, is saying they’d recommend not funding an unnecessary signal. Which is wild to me, frankly. That stretch of MacArthur is so busy. Adding traffic without a signal sounds like a bad idea.
John Milner points out that the build out of this project will take as much as a decade. So what’s the rush when it could be serviced by the signal at SW 5th.
