This from @lawyers4britain is, to put it mildly, not a line the government would be well advised to take. lawyersforbritain.org/the-judges-sho…
In essence, it says “We lied about the reason for the prorogation. It has everything to do with shutting Parliament up during the key stage of Brexit. But we can shut Parliament up whenever we assert it’s in the national interest, can’t we? And please ignore the lie.”
To paraphrase Lord Atkin, it isn’t even an argument that would have been addressed to the court by the Crown in the reign of Charles I. It would have been just too embarrassing.
It is, however, quite something that Martin Howe QC and @lawyers4britain can manage to believe at the same time (a) that the Inner House failed to take into account the allegedly seriously adverse effect on the EU negotiations of Parliament sitting at this time and
(b) that the court should not take political considerations into account.
It would certainly have impressed the White Queen. She just believed six impossible things before breakfast. Even she couldn’t manage to believe things that were inconsistent with each other.
