Kind of amazing to live in a time when Dungeons & Dragons as a game is part of a pro wrestling plotline.
All the "haha you nerds got worked" takes are as boring as any "don't you know wrestling is fake" one.

Stranger Things isn't real, either, but it's kind of a big deal that D&D is integral to it, just like when it popped up in E.T.
"Getting mad on his tweet is just giving him what he wants!" But... he doesn't want anything? As you're pointing out, it's a work and he's in character. A promotion is trying to capitalize on the cultural relevance of Dungeons and Dragons. "Giving in" demonstrates that impact.
Anyway, the most prominent replies aren't angry, they're just... pro-D&D.

One of my favorite games is called Scorgasm. It's a "bullet heck" space shooter where the story is barely a fig leaf - save the world and get a cookie. Very intense, demanding, purely mechanical gameplay.

I play it to relax.
Another one of my favorite games is A Short Hike, a "can't lose" game that has mechanic mastery and a goal and a story but is definitely on the casual side... a "walking simulator" that lets you climb, jump, glide, and fly around a Canadian parkland.

I also play it to relax.
They're both games. Myst, a hypercard slideshow with embedded videos, was a game. Super Mario Bros. and The Legend of Zelda are both games... you ever start stacking up the differences between those two things?

So, this one's about this Greg Olear thread (and other recent threads on the same topic). Short version is: I substantially agree with his analysis, though as always I advise caution on the timeframe while still urging readiness to act.

I really do feel like several things are reaching their breaking points, but I would caution anyone from thinking that means it's almost over... I'd say rather that it means things are about to begin.

Here is a thing about "don't feed the trolls, don't react, don't announce you are targeted because that tells them that it's working, just block and move on" advice that is going around...

It can work. It does work, sometimes.

It works great... right up until it doesn't.
And whether it's going to work or not is not up to you, and it's not apparent to you.

You know the guys who get really offended when they find out that women text a friend their license plate, or have check ins, or don't want to meet them in private for the first time?
"I'm a nice guy, you shouldn't treat me like I'm an axe murderer or rapist!" doesn't work because an axe murderer or rapist doesn't look any different than a nice guy.

Same thing with the trolls who will get bored and move on vs. the ones who will escalate if ignored.

I've seen the "10 RPGs that most influenced you" thing floating around. Here is a stab at it for me.

Marvel Super Heroes
Marvel Heroic Roleplaying
Ghostbusters
Monster of the Week
Fate
Edge of the Empire
Mutants and Masterminds
7th Sea 2nd Edition
D&D feels like a HUGE cheat, since that, for me, covers B/X, BECMI, AD&D 1st and 2nd Edition, 3rd, 4th, and 5th edition.

I also don't lump Pathfinder in there because despite being a similar rules base, I learned completely different things from how the game was supported.
Standard disclaimer--I tried to pick the top ten, but I've definitely been influenced by more games than this. Sometimes, in retrospect, but there have definitely been more than these 10 that had an impact.

Dungeons & Dragons, explained:
A little over a year ago, I started listening to the @DnDPodcast on a whim, just to learn what it was about. I'd heard about Dungeons & Dragons but didn't really understand how it worked, or how a game could exist only in the players' imaginations.
I immediately fell in love with the idea of it, but obviously had nobody to play it with.

I mentioned it to @byrdala at a work happy hour, and she told me she'd played once before and might be down to try again.

"I've played tons of video games," I though. "I can DM."
