Ended Esther yesterday. Started the literary masterpiece that is Job this AM. Truly poetic genius. Reflecting again on how Job never knew the dynamic in play between God & Satan or that he had an unseen audience. Then he’d have had motivation to perform. To win a cosmic contest.
We can do that, you know. Especially on this planet populated by endless platforms hosting the public performances of people. We can perform in our suffering so that we can at least attain the consolation of having impressed people. Wasn’t Job. His was scraped-raw faithfulness.
Seasons of comparative ease & success create the illusion of control. “Keep doing what I’m doing because it’s working & God’s blessing.” But when the bottom drops out & suffering rolls in like waves, we realize how little control we have. But there is 1 thing within our power.->
One thing no man or woman, no angel or demon, no circumstance or season can take from us if we still have our minds. We have the right to faithfulness. Suffering makes us feel powerless. “There’s nothing I can do.” Yes, Beth, there is. You can be faithful. You can choose trust.
You may have utterly no idea what’s going on right now & everything seems topsy-turvy to what you thought you understood about God and His promises. Even so, TRUST HIM. He cannot do evil. Cannot do you wrong. One day you’ll get it. But today, give it. Give God your faithfulness.
