US agricultural land is now 48 times more toxic than 25 years ago.

I have a love-hate relationship with the Common (or Ring-necked) pheasant, a species native to Asia and perhaps SE Europe but introduced in its MILLIONS to the UK. Here's a brief thread on this species and what it means for us in the UK... #birds #ornithology
Across the British countryside, the Common pheasant is ubiquitous, typically being the only 'large groundbird' you might see. Lone males - often calling loudly (gogOK!) - are commonly seen, as are groups of females and juveniles. They're everywhere in agricultural landscapes.
Because they look great - they're attractive, large, and represent a body shape we don't see in other commonly encountered British birds (more on that in a minute) - I think we mostly enjoy their presence in the land here...

Today, it is easier than ever to run a system with only free (libre) apps...
However, 7 years later, there are still some gaps. One of these is backup. Google users get a convenient one click cloud backup while users of a free system need insecure root or debug bridge hacks.
That is why I have been working on a #FreeSoftware backup app that does not need root and saves backups wherever you want (e.g. flash drive, @Nextclouders).

More story time! Years ago when federal courts went to efiling which includes exhibits I went to a seminar at our district court on how to redact info properly. This was mainly stuff like minor's names, DOB, SSN, that stuff.
I was sitting there all smug that it was firm policy to never include that in filings and who is stupid enough to use full bank account numbers and I was feeling good about me and our firm policies. A look around the room showed the same smug expressions on most faces.
Then chipper woman putting on the seminar said "don't forget your exhibits!' and pulled up some dummy medical records to show hey here's where all that info is and you read over it and I nearly threw up. There was a loud OH SHIT from behind me and that's when we all freaked out

Kicking off with land use: Our report says fundamental reform to how land is used and managed is needed to deliver the UK’s climate goals. There is now a unique opportunity to define a better land strategy that can tackle the challenges of #climatechange. Read the Exec Summary.
Significant changes in land use could help reduce emissions by 35-80% by 2050. Figure 2.5 explains. Deeper cuts in emissions by 2050 require ↑↑ tree planting & peatland restoration, while the harvesting of biomass could help to displace emissions in energy & construction.

When shows I watch get cancelled, I always wish I'd have done more to praise them. So this'll be an ongoing thread of shows I like, cancelled and renewed.
I basically stumbled onto #Rise and it had me in my feelings every week. Such a good story and really talented young cast. I had a feeling it wouldn't be renewed, so I was apprehensive about investing. But it was a worthwhile to do so.
#Sirens is one of my favorite shows this season. I went into it expecting a kind of teenage melodrama (like Twilight with mermaids) but it's actually mature and smart. It's a far more engaging story than I expected and I actively anticipate new episodes every week.
