1. The "Low Energy Demand" scenario consistent with 1.5°C does not use CCS & is therefore favoured by many.

LED still uses significant land (afforestation & bioenergy), goes net-negative in 2060, & has deep mitigation in the global South.

2. The scenario only splits into North & South, not regions (I am not sure why).

A scenario from the same model with the same socioeconomic gives a regional split, with all regions with similar mitigation & negative emissions (especially Latin America).

India has pledge to reduce its emission intensity (CO₂/GDP) 33-35% from 2005 levels by 2030, leading to a big rise in CO₂ emissions by 2030.

In context, 1.5°C requires a 45% reduction in CO₂ emissions from 2010 levels by 2030, globally!

Yes, India has much lower per capita CO₂ emissions than many countries & is below the world average. But, if 1.5°C or 2°C is the goal, then even countries with low per capita emissions have to reduce emissions...

Yes, US, EU, etc have to do more, so does India, China, etc

Despite impressive growth in solar & wind in India, see lines at the bottom of figure, the Indian energy system is dominated by coal, oil, & biomass.

Coal is still growing strongly in India, despite claims that Indian coal has come to an end.

Det er et spørsmål om glasset er halvfullt eller halvtomt. Forhåpentlig kommer fornybar energi til å erstatte fossilt brensel, men problemet er at vi ikke får på plass politikk for å ta fossil energi ut av ligningen
Selv om de rike landene kutter alle utslipp innen ti år, til 2030, noe de aller fleste vil si er helt umulig, selv da må utviklingslandene gjøre mye mer enn det de allerede gjør

Until now, the only SEO space where AMP was kind of "mandatory" was on news: if you want to appear on the "Top stories" box, you kind of need to have your articles to use AMP. You can appear there withouth AMP, but you don't get the same visual benefits #AMP #SEO .
Now Google is bringing "Stories" (like Instagram Stories, Snapchat Stories, etc.) to search results. They just announced it at #ampconf (see ) #AMP #SEO
This means that for certain kind of queries (by now: travel, and later also gaming, movies, tv and fashion) the first result will get another "special box" called "Visual Stories" where you can only appear using not only AMP, but AMP stories #AMP #SEO

The targets set in the proposed Green New Deal are a bit ambiguous. It suggests a 10-year mobilization, but does not necessarily set a goal of net-zero carbon by 2030. Lets explore the impact of the goals on the climate and the challenge of mitigation *epic thread*. 1/27
First, the climate. If the world wants to limit warming to below 1.5C (with a ~66% chance of avoiding it) with limited deployment of negative emissions, US emissions would have to fall around 50% by 2030 and to net-zero a bit after 2040. 2/
Equity considerations (giving more room for future emissions from poor countries) could further compress this timeline, as would divvying up the remaining carbon budget evenly to each country based on population. 3/

Today the IPCC released its Special Report on the implications of a global temperature increase of 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels, and whether it is physically possible & feasible to achieve this climate stabilisation. The Summary for Policymakers: report.ipcc.ch/sr15/pdf/sr15_…
There are some key messages in the report. Bottom line: there is a substantial reduction in risks when stabilising at 1.5°C compared to 2°C; it is physically possible to achieve this lower stabilisation, but extremely challenging in infrastructure terms.
Human activities are estimated to have caused approximately 1.0°C of global warming above pre-industrial levels, with a likely range of 0.8°C to 1.2°C. Global warming is likely to reach 1.5°C between 2030 and 2052 if it continues to increase at the current rate.
