Until now, the only SEO space where AMP was kind of "mandatory" was on news: if you want to appear on the "Top stories" box, you kind of need to have your articles to use AMP. You can appear there withouth AMP, but you don't get the same visual benefits #AMP #SEO .
Now Google is bringing "Stories" (like Instagram Stories, Snapchat Stories, etc.) to search results. They just announced it at #ampconf (see ) #AMP #SEO
This means that for certain kind of queries (by now: travel, and later also gaming, movies, tv and fashion) the first result will get another "special box" called "Visual Stories" where you can only appear using not only AMP, but AMP stories #AMP #SEO
This means that some publishers/websites, which may be ranking on the first organic result right now, like this: #AMP #SEO
Will go down on the SERPs to give space to this new "Visual Stories" space (even those using #AMP, as you need an AMP Story , not any AMP page) #SEO
Here is an example of a published AMP Story : edition.cnn.com/ampstories/wor…

Also information about how to create them: amp.dev/about/stories
Google says they will try this out on those kind of queries, and will decide what to do based on user interaction. So if users like that (or, if Google decides users like that enough), as SEOs we will be forced to use not only AMP, but a specific format (AMP Stories) #AMP #SEO
Also, this is a format that right requires some effort to build: if you are creating Stories on Instagram for example, there is not AFAIK a way to republish that stories to your website in the AMP Stories format directly #AMP #SEO
Even if there was, you need to add elements for monetization, whether it's ads, affiliate links or links to other areas of your website. #AMP #SEO
For those using Wordpress, the official AMP plugin will have the functionality included: github.com/ampproject/amp…
