My 5yo is trying to make jokes and having a hard time. After repeating: “Why did the cow cross the road? To go to the moooovies,” she tried many variations — the pig crossed the road to go to the Eiffel Tower, the snake crossed the road to go to science — I tried to explain that
jokes often rely on a word (“moo”) having a double meaning, or have a twist that surprises people who were thinking something else. After thoughtfully trying to explain the rules of comedy, the 2yo pipes up with “Why did the poop cross the road? To get to the other poop!”
Which was hilarious, despite obeying none of the aforementioned rules of comedy. The baby accent makes everything funnier.
