This gorgeous spider was hanging out on the leaves of a giant tank bromelid (the same species that the rare golden frog is found in) near Kaieteur Falls. Said bromelid was on a cliff edge so it was rather difficult to get good pics of it!
Great patterning on this Guyanese spider, hanging out on its web. Spotted just after finding a very cool caterpillar, at the start of walking up a small mountain (still can't believe we walked up the mountain in that heat)
At the top of said small Guyanese mountain (NB: located in the land belonging to Rewa village, we were staying at Rewa Eco Lodge at the time), were these 3 spiders.
Coming back down the mountain, I photographed this tick (FYI for those unaware, ticks are also arachnids). There were a LOT of ticks on this trail. *shudder*
Plus another groovy spider - this one has a BIG web above our heads, very impressive
More pics of the Goliath bird-eating spiders! Two separate individuals (I think the first was the female). Last pic also shows a shed skin! Again on Rewa land.
Whilst staying at Rewa Eco Lodge, @kevin_rushby was lucky enough to have a pink-toed tarantula in his lodge. I was gutted not to see it before it got released. There's a video of it on Kevin's Instagram: instagram.com/p/B3uBeOxJlMO/
After staying at Rewa Eco Lodge for 2 nights, we then moved on to Surama Eco Lodge. In the morning, we walked to a harpy eagle nest site. Sadly the eagles were a no-show, but the waiting around for them meant I had time to look at some inverts, including spiders!
Still at the harpy eagle nest site (with no harpy eagles), this little spider was especially cute. Very confusing as to where all it's eyes were located.
Walking back from the harpy eagle nest site, disappointed by the lack of said harpy eagles, our eagle-eyed (couldn't help it) guide Leon Moore spotted this wandering spider. Apologies for poor resolution.
The final Guyanese arachnid of the trip was this poor little scorpion*, stuck in our sink at the Waikin Ranch. I managed to scoop it up & release it outside.
*FYI scorpions are also arachnids! Arachnidae is actually quite a big group (class) of arthropods!
