Parable of the cow

1. A cow is stuck in a muddy pool. What will they do?

• One will ask whose cow it is
• Another will share ideas on how to rescue it
• Someone will disagree & a long debate will ensue
• Another will ask how it got stuck & others will share their theories
2. • One will explain how a cow got stuck in the next village & how they rescued it
• Another will narrate how a cow got stuck in the same pool 20 years ago
• Another will suggest a need for help from the next village
• Others will suggest it’s probably best to slaughter it
3. With so many ideas flying around, the cow is still be stuck in the mud. Soon there’s a brawl as people start accusing each other of being responsible for the cow’s predicament. A passer-by says he can help but for a fee. He wants a piece of land in return. The villagers agree.

2. “Where such facilities may not be available then Sakunda can move inputs to GMB depots ...” adds The Herald. So we have a company allegedly being investigated by government for suspected money-laundering but it’s still a big partner in the same government’s flagship program?🤷🏾‍♂️
3. Of course, some of us knew government was playing mind games & was never serious about pursuing Sakunda. It was all for a show, a corporate-washing exercise to then claim these entities were clean after all. Yet some still fervently believe the anti-corruption drive is genuine

Seven Stages of an ED supporter

1. Euphoria following “victory”. They don’t care how he won. They won. That’s all that matters. They mock, berate & ridicule their opponents as sore losers.
2. Blind optimism in the early days. The future looks bright. Obvious failings are ignored. It’s the “Give Him a Chance Stage”. Any voices of dissent are shut down as negative and unpatriotic. During this stage any tiny bit of news is amplified to make it look bigger. Zvichaita.
3. Denial. Soon enough as the months go by, the euphoria recedes and reality starts to bite, doubts creep in. But it would be unpatriotic to let doubt prevail. You cannot accept that things are going wrong. That would be to give in to the opponents. So you press the denial button

1. This is what I gathered from the FBC circular to its staff over the handling of Nostro FCAs. The thread starts here:

• A company/organisation may pay wages in USD if it has approval from the RBZ’s Exchange Control Unit. The wages should be paid into the employee’s Nostro FCA
2. Cash withdrawals from the Nostro FCA are banned unless the RBZ approves a specific application stating the “reasons and circumstances” for the cash request. This makes the process of cash withdrawals cumbersome & potentially slow & frustrating.
3. The forex in the Nostro FCA may be used to meet domestic transactions but only upon conversion to the ZimDollar at the “prevailing rate”, presumably meaning the Interbank market exchange rate. This, of course, is lower than the parallel market rate.

I think the way people theorize the causal effect of money is odd. What do people think the marginal value of another billion is to a person like Bezos?—especially considering that wealth isn’t concretely spendable anyway
