"President Trump did insist that President Zelenskyy go to a microphone and say he is opening investigations of Biden and 2016 election interference, and that President Zelenskyy should want to do this himself."
"President Trump was adamant that President Zelenskyy, himself, had to "clear things up and do it in public."
"Sondland tried to explain to me that President Trump is a businessman. When a businessman is about to sign a check to someone who owes him something, he said, the businessman asks that person to pay up before signing the check."
This was a textbook shakedown.

The faster that everyone learns to discuss the Trump administration in terms of a vicious criminal cabal (as opposed to an incompetent administration run amok) - the more everything falls into place.

In addition to normal policy-making, "there was an irregular, informal channel of U.S. policy-making with respect to Ukraine," that included Volker, Sondland, Perry and Giuliani. By August 'the channels diverged in their objectives."

2/ In June, Volker and Sondlad told Taylor that Trump "'wanted to hear from Zelenskyy' before scheduling the meeting in the Oval Office."

June 27: Sondland told him "Zelenskyy needed to make clear" that he "was not standing in the way of 'investigations.'"
3/June 28: Sondland told Taylor he didn't want to include most of the normal participants in a phone call with Zelenskyy.

Volker, Sondland, Perry and Taylor joined the call. Before patching Zelenskyy in, Sondland made sure no one was transcribing or monitoring.

New - Bill Taylor testified that he was told by Ambassador Gordon Sondland that security aid to Ukraine could have been held up in part because of a push for Ukraine to publicly announce an investigation that could help Trump politically, per sources in both parties.
Taylor said that he and Sondland spoke by phone about why the aid was frozen, and Sondland cited the need for Ukraine to open an investigation among other reasons, according to the sources
Asked about Taylor’s comments, a source familiar with Sondland’s testimony said that Sondland cited, in addition to the investigations, that the aid may have been frozen because the Europeans weren’t giving Ukraine enough and corruption generally.
