The most interesting thing here is the extremely strong positive correlation between "most people have heard of this politician" and "most people hate this politician"
Basically the mass of the population hates all politicians indiscriminately. Except, for some reason, David Blunkett.

And then a small group of political junkies quite like their small-batch hipster politicians that no one else has heard enough about to hate.
Realising on rereading that this is just Remain politicians but the point still holds

But I feel selling Trump Washington to a foreign buyer at a 50% valuation premium to a major recent deal isn't the *best* way to calm conflict-of-interest fears.

Could this be the same coal-fired aluminium industry that Rio Tinto has been wanting to get rid of for a decade because it consistently loses money?
Aluminium smelting just doesn't really work as an export industry. Australia held onto it for a while because our main customer is Japan, whose energy costs are very high, and energy costs are almost everything in smelting.
Then the Gulf states built a series of massive gas-powered smelters and China had spare export capacity and the reason for keeping Australia's ageing smelters going vanished.

It's a weird coincidence that this obvious misreading is politically very useful for managing Facebook's position as a vast unregulated media business
If you want to be left alone by politicians at a time when no publications doing consistently good journalism are full-throated supporters of the current administration, *balance* on a left/right axis rather than using good quality/poor quality helps keep critics off your back.
This isn't so different to how US newspapers developed the whole "balance" thing in the 20th century, as the winners of the yellow journalism era of partisan writing found themselves inheriting profitable metro media monopolies and sought a way to keep City Hall off their backs.

Cash tenancy agreements tended to be written down & sharecropping agreements tended to be verbal. So, if you only look in contract archives (rather than also looking at USDA censuses) you'll miss a lot of the sharecropping.
Landlords that raised livestock & rented out cropland to tenants/sharecroppers, collected rent in grain, & fed it to livestock was a whole thing back in the day.

That's a very "corporate" approach to ag. In the 1860s.

Interesting paper from @CrowtherLab, but I share concerns on communication expressed by @pepcanadell. It should be recognised that getting to a net-zero CO2 budget requires us foremost to reduce CO2 emissions close to 0. This can unfortunately not be achieved with planting trees.
A few additional points not addressed in @pepcanadell's thread, which are important to consider when planning reforestation:
First, reforestation may lead to a net warming in some regions, due to albedo effects (e.g. snow shading), as shown in e.g. papers of @richardabetts.
Also evapotranspiration plays a role. Hence, one should be careful not to equate 1m2 of forest in Siberia with 1m2 of Amazon rainforest. See eg work of @mikewin_climsci (also with @TWCrowther), recently recognized by @theAGU [paper in preparation...]:

Here's what else they have to wonder about: December 2016, the Chinese captured, studied, and displayed an American submarine drone. They eventually gave it back, but it was an aggressive seizure of American property and probably should have met more of a response than it did.
That said, it wasn’t a cause for war — and so it is difficult now to see the Iranian shootdown of an American aerial drone as a cause for war.

The interesting thing here is less what we will do than what the Iranians will do. They are manifestly climbing the escalation ladder:
first attacks on neutral shipping, and no response; now attacks on American material assets, and likely no response to that too. The next step is plausibly to kill Americans, and that may get a response —
