some asshole copied my tshirt and is selling a cheap knockoff. i am surprisingly incensed by this, mostly because it looks so awful. you can still get the old one from the same url: bonfire.com/nines-dont-mat…
... but i just put up another version that i think i like better. they kinda fucked up the alignment, i had had it off to the side and they centered the right-justified text -- hella weird.

proceeds will go to some good cause, i haven't decided which one yet. and possibly help subsidize my systems stickers hoard.

Absolutely agree. People wait too long to boost signal, when "is it happening to just me?" Is the most valuable signal there is.

Yes. There is a vast wilderness of problems and weirdness that are not (yet) serious enough or customer impacting enough to wake someone up.

Which is why you should spend some time looking at production Every. Day., and following your curiosity where it takes you.
It was established monitoring doctrine that "you shouldn't need to go look at graphs all the time, the system should alert you when it's broken."

No more.

You really do need to be in there looking at the code you are writing, through the lens of your instrumentation. Every day. Just poking around.

I don't care how good your test coverage is; if you aren't watching users use it in prod, you aren't done.

It's complicated. Reasonable people can disagree. But we have made it much easier for capital to move than for humans to move over the past few decades. By paying without regard to location, I can level the playing field for a small few.
This is not however an issue I would live and die on. It's a luxury ethical good.

If it were a question of company survival vs disparate pay for highly paid senior folks in different locations, it's not even one I'd lose sleep over.
Here's one ethical luxury good that I *do* lose sleep over: hiring junior engineers. Truly junior ones, like first job out of boot campers.

This is an industry of shameless freeloaders, and it bothers me.

When Europe bans something that Africans have mastered (like ganga), our puppet leaders are quick to adopt it & disadvantage us. But when they ban something truly dangerous, like aluminum cooking utensils, our leaders will ignore it, because they really don't GAF about our health
If you have never thought about it, pls do so today.... Where is the other half of that aluminum ladle or spoon??? Unlike the "dad3s3n" which was a cast iron pot (still inferior to the Clay pot, but more later) these aluminum cooking pots are a serious health hazard.
The proof is very simple. Break (so there is no metal contact) fresh kontomire into 3 cooking pots containing water. One clay, one cast iron (or stainless steel) and one aluminum pot. Boil for 10 mins. Remove samples from each & place on a clean white cloth to inspect ...

One day I visited a friend of mine,Thomas Mouko, who is blind. And because it was night he did something that taught me a lot.

Upon entering the house, Thomas switched on the light.
And I asked him "Thomas, why did you put on the light yet you can't see?"
Thomas laughed for a long time, switched off the light and went to the kitchen, after a short while he came with a pot of tea and eggs, placed them perfectly well on the table and switched on the light again

What Thomas said made me shed tears because he said to me, Jay Jay!
I did not put on the light for my own sake or because I needed it, I did it for you because you needed it since you are not blind like me".

The USA are still the first superpower of the world. They've been a great country for decades. They saved europeans from themselves, and they did it twice. In spite of the stupid Playa Girón episode, they kept being the guardian of Western Civilization.
They showed determination and decisiveness during the Grenada (1983), Panama (1989) and Irak-Kuwait (1991) crises.
But things started to change, and the handling of the World Trade Center attack was surprisingly clumsy.
Right now, the first superpower looks incapable and unwilling to save europeans from themselves one more time. Besides, europeans don't look eager to get saved by Americans: quite the contrary.

Abe's still down, but he's gotten up and moved a few hundred feet.
When I went up he was stretched out flat and I thought he was dead, but when I spoke he raised his head.
I petted him some. He seems to be at peace. What will be will be.
Abe is young middle age in donkey years. A donkey can live 50 years, they say, but none of mine have, and we care for them as well as we know how. That includes some research & studying.
Abe's about 15 or 16. His momma was a BLM jenny and his daddy was a big red Large Standard.
This is his daddy and full sister. I don't have a pic of his mom but I bet G does.
