Rounding out vacation with a Nam June Paik exhibit. A majority of exhibits use CRT televisions and monitors and that has an issue
Because of the reliance on tube televisions, the exhibits are straying further and further from the original technology as it dies

I'm sure the planning meetings are energetic aroubd this issue
What becomes of the art when it can't be preserved and shown the original way? This interests me for some reason
They are already using screens and projectors manufactured after Paik's death now. Soon they'll all be that.
Meanwhile, we will have to make do.

I wasn't concerned that text adventures wouldn't be covered in the future, just that they would be covered very lightly and mostly wrong as to their nature. So I tried to put a film together that captured a number of aspects that I figured would be a little much for game history
I had just come off 5 years of a previous film, so any choices I made were definitely intentional and definitely mine. One of them was that I knew I wouldn't capture the feeling of text adventures very easily.

Seconded... hey, do you know who has spent years and years and years trying to collect as many short urls as possible? Urlte.am.
Over the years we have discovered and rescued hundreds of URL shortening services that have gone off line. Hundreds.
Unless your use of URL shortening is accompanied by the long form in the metadata, or the short URL is to something on your own site, you are creating a one time cryptographic pad that won't last half a decade. Don't do it. period.

Why?
Biggies anticipating weak no.s were Short in Jul. When actual no.s came, they covered.

I’m teaching a course on the history of new media art at @OCAD this summer. I’ll be sharing notes, links, and ephemera here over the next several weeks. Pictured here, Nam June Paik’s “TV Buddha” (1974).
Klee’s “Angelus Novus” is our mascot. Why? Because art history requires serious neck-craning and Walter Benjamin’s diagnosis of the angel’s fate is far more vivid than what Klee depicted; I want to drive home point that critics build on top of practice (sometimes exponentially).
