Today is the Arulmigu Arunachaleswarar Temple girivalam (circumambulation). To those who dont know Arunachaleshwarar temple is unique as in a large portion of the sacred spots the Deity is found on the hill. Be that as it may, here the Holy hill itself is the Deity -Annamalaiyar 
"Arunam" signifies sun and means the red shade of fire. "Asalam" signifies "Giri" or "malai" (mountain). In this way "Arunachalam" signifies the Holy hill with red color.
The Annamalai Hill was Agni (fire) during Kirthayugam, was Manikkam (Emerad) during Threthayugam, was Pon (Gold) during Dwaparayugam and rock during Kaliyugam. There are eight lingams situated at the eight headings and gives an octagonal structure to Thiruvannamalai Town.
The eight lingams are: Indra Lingam, Agni Lingam, Yama Lingam, Niruthi Lingam, Varuna Lingam, Vayu Lingam, Kubera Lingam and Esanya Lingam.
The circumambulation (girivalam) way is 14 kilometers. History has it that even today various siddhars are living on the Hill. It is favorable to perform "Girilvalam" during each Full moon day which would do wonders.
It is on the grounds that during Full Moon Day siddhars development would be there and the entire climate would be loaded up with scents of home grown plants. This will give significant peace of mind and great well-being to everybody.
On each Full moon day lakhs of lovers circumambulate the Hill and get all advantages by imploring Lord Annamalaiyar. The circumambulation way has been furnished with sodium lights by 12 lakhs donation gave by cine craftsman Thiru Rajinikanth.
In addition to assist the devotees during this auspicious event, annadhanam is performed by Sri Agasthiar Ashram. Also various donors also supply milk to the devotees.
