Thread: Why I'm stupid bullish on Facebook - because they have a master plan for everything

1) Replacing E-commerce (shopify, click funnels, woo commerce, etc.)

Right now with my stores, almost every sale is a visit from an IG ad, and then a purchase within the IG browser
So why even send the person off IG, and to my Shopify store? Why not just let get more details and pay right through IG?

2) Replacing p2p payments

Right now if I owe someone money, I send them a fb/whatsapp/IG message to Venmo or E-Transfer me

What if they could just click accept and do it through FB?

3) Replacing your phone (VR/AR)

People didn't believe a phone could replace a laptop, and today it has for a lot of people.

Anyone who thinks VR/AR won't replace your phone is lost

4) Augmenting your brain

Elon currently has a lot of the hype for this because of Neuralink, but FB has been silently building chips to augment your brain as well, and is seeing success

5) Monetizing WhatsApp

Most people forget that WhatsApp is the most used chat platform on the planet, and Facebook owns 100% of it.

They haven't even started monetizing it either

Between WhatsApp, Messenger, and IG - that's a lot of chat
6) Replacing TikTok: We already saw them Instagram Snapchat, why not Instagram Tik Tok?

7) Replacing money: Libra

9) Replacing Tinder/Match: Facebook Dating (facebook.com/dating)
10) Replacing Amazon

Facebook Marketplace already replaced Kijiji and Craigslist for me

At what point does it start letting generic sellers list goods? Or even digital goods like concert tickets (StubHub) right from the FB event page

Notice how high the CPM is? That’s because every advertiser on the planet is buying ads this weekend, so getting reach is expensive

Good news is conversions are stupid high as well, so it gets offset
Because it’s BF, you need to compete with every other seller for the buyers attention

The key is making your offer very clear - include “Black Friday Sale” in the ad copy, and make sure your ads have a text banner on them with a huge discount number

@Redasbox 2/ First some very brief context. Algeria has seen the 32nd weekend of pro-democracy demonstrations. Peaceful protests successfully pressured Abdelaziz Bouteflika, the ruler of 20 years, to step down in April. An election has been called for on December 12th to help try and

[#Thread] 1/ This one is on the Egypt protests, or rather the hashtag #ميدان_التحرير I gathered a sample of around 21,000 interactions from around 9,700 unique accounts. Quite a lot of accounts considering they are unique. Obviously there will be much chatter about influence ops
2/ I did my usual analysis first. I examined the account metadata to determine the distribution of account creation dates. What I found was quite astonishing. 1484 of the 9713 unique accounts were created in September 2019. That's 15%!
3/ As you can see from the graph, the spike on the right shows the 1484 accounts created in September. Bear in mind the average number of accounts created per month in this sample is just 66. That's a huge difference! What's perhaps more interesting is that the accounts started

I wasn't inclined to tweet about #Kashmir, but after seeing the amount of disinformation, I am going to.

I'm back in the newsroom today after a week in Srinagar.

Things are NOT normal.

People are seething. Kashmir is likely a tinderbox waiting for a spark.
When I got there on Monday, just hours after Article 370 was abrogated, the city was locked down.

I walked a km to find the nicest auto-wallah in the land.

He didn't have a clue of what had happened, why his city had overnight turned into ghost town -- blanketed with security.
Later that evening, we spoke to @shahfaesal in his living room.

Since satellite TVs were still working, news had trickled in.

“We might see an eruption when the guard is down."

“People are taking it as an act of humiliation.”

Then, the pelting began.
