Good morning yall. My rest day got hijacked by a crisis in my community. I am emotionally exhausted by the labor I performed to keep someone safe from the prison and psychiatric industrial complexes. Today I will rest, do laundry, see my therapist and get a massage. Take care.
And I just have to say: the limited availability of psychiatric care in this country is so upsetting. The replacement of mental health care with policing is enraging. For example: There were no beds in psych wards anywhere in this county last night...
After hours of waiting we were told our options were to send this person to a dentention center 3 hrs away (jail) or take them home during an acute mental health crisis to deal with it on our own. I left exhausted, demoralized and still concerned for folks’ safety.
This is not health care. Not for the person experiencing a mental health crisis, not for their partner, not for their friends, not for their community.
