Speaking to @newscientist about the planned trial in 2014, Tisherman said “we are suspending life but we don’t like to call it suspended animation because it sounds like science fiction. So we call it emergency preservation and resuscitation (EPR)” newscientist.com/article/mg2212…
EPR involves rapidly cooling the patient to 10-15°C by replacing all of their blood with ice-cold saline. The patient’s brain activity almost completely stops. Surgeons then have two hours to fix the patient’s injuries before they are warmed up again and their heart restarted
