Kamala is my first choice. Full stop.

That said, does anyone else think 6 months is too long to expect employers to hold your job and let you come back to it?
I think my tweet is missing some nuance. I'm not talking about incentive, I'm talking about job performance.

If you aren't doing your job, someone else has to do it. Someone who knows how to do it. Where do they find that person? and where does that person go after 6 months?
Also, as someone who is single and childless, I'm the one stuck doing the work when someone else takes maternity leave. Why don't I get six months off?

I know I'm going to get flamed for this, but it's a real issue.
And as a side note, it makes me sad how many of these replies assume all women have low-level admin jobs that could be handle by temps and resumed with no negative impact.

What about executives and jobs that require specialized expertise or credentials?
Another side note: It makes me happy that this discussion has been relatively healthy and civil, informative, and only a few people have attacked me. Frankly, I was expecting a whole lot more.
One more thing before I log off: I've been reading a lot lately about generational attitudes towards work- Boomers vs Gen X vs Millennials.

I think these replies reflect how our society is evolving and expectations are changing wrt careers/professional advancement. Fascinating!
