Finally watching Frye Festival doc.

It was like Jonestown - people were promised a tropical paradise but arrived to a hot, desolate empty space.

Major difference: they had technology to communicate with the outside world, and the means to come home. But I'm sure it was scary.

To those of you freaking out over the comparison, this was supposed to be a commentary on modernity - Jonestown couldn't happen today. Back then the people couldn't call for help. Even with authorities knowing Ryan was there, it took 20+ hours to rescue the survivors.
I also think the angry people didn't see the documentary. It wasn't about running out of avocado toast. I didn't know they were stranded with no food, water, or shelter and some couldn't get back into the US at first. Not like Jonestown to any degree, but not ok, and quite scary
