It was an honour to receive the award for Empathy in Leadership and deliver the talk, “Leadership by Example – A Sine Qua Non to Building a Great Nation.” I shared four qualities required to lead by example. Below are excerpts from my speech.
1. Transparency and Accountability
I showed the right example by opening myself to scrutiny. If you follow me on social media, you will see that everything I do, is in the open. Also, our administration has been open about contracts awarded since we got into office.

2. Taking Responsibility
The buck stops on my table. Just as I am happy to take the glory when things are going well, I also take responsibility when things are not going as well as they should. For e.g, the challenges with refuse disposal in Ibadan which we're working to resolve

3. Creating a Roadmap of Solutions
I believe in planning. Even before getting into office, I had a plan of how I knew things would work best. (Our Roadmap for Accelerated Development of Oyo State). [O]ur administration takes a solution-based approach to challenges.

4. Listening Skills
At every opportunity, I tell the people of Oyo State to talk to us. We are not spirits in government. With the advancements in information technology, it is easier to communicate with the government.

I said at the outset of this talk that "great leaders start others thinking along fresh lines with a vigour that persists even after they die."

The late Chief Bola Ige implemented free education in Oyo State in 1980. He even wrote to the students back then in 1981, a year after the policy was implemented. I am here today standing on this platform, one of the products of his free education policy.
He inspired me to start our free education programme in Oyo State public schools. Because Chief Bola Ige left no child behind, today, I pledge to leave no child behind in Oyo State.
