@RepLawrence Censure was obvious move from the start -- would've challenged GOP instead of emboldening it. Democratic leaders, addled by both Russiagate's failure & its underlying Cold Warrior mentality -- and egged on by profit-driven media -- couldn't see straight.
@RepLawrence When GOP Rep. Justin Amash backed impeachment it was treated as massive and possibly game-changing news. Somehow I doubt that a Democratic Rep. coming out against impeachment will make the same waves.

This means that during the Russiagate era of endless MSNBC/Schiff-fueled speculation that Wikileaks had a "go-between" w/ Trump (Stone? Corsi? Credico?), they looked the wrong way: the actual go-between was a Trump mega-donor's company helping to spy on Wikileaks for Trump's CIA.
Even a Roger Stone trial underscoring that Stone had no backchannel w/ Wikileaks was reported the opposite away. Here's @NBCNews calling Stone the Trump campaign's "Wikileaks connection." In reality, Trump's "connection" was to WL his CIA's spying on it. nbcnews.com/politics/polit…

A Max Blumenthal interview w/ @RollingStone has prompted a new round of attacks from some who cynically conflate Syria's 2011 protests w/ the Gulf-Turkey-US-backed proxy war. Joe Biden explained the latter pretty well, though he omitted the $1b+ CIA role:

@adamgoldmanNYT The Mueller team & other officials have disingenuously tried to suggest that Mifsud was a Russian intermediary. But it's the job of reporters to report the facts, not what intelligence officials want people to falsely believe in the absence of actual evidence.

It's time I had my say about #Impeachment, DJT's obstructionistic tactics, and @SpeakerPelosi's not pushing for an inquiry yet.

When AG Barr released the redacted version of the report to Congress, he did *not* include any of the underlying documents on which Mueller relied.

Just like a lawsuit, a case has to be built based on facts and evidence. Both the Intelligence Committee and the Judiciary Committee have been working their way through the system, including voting to hold AG Barr in Contempt of Congress. DJT has been fighting them in court.

2/
Meanwhile, the Ways and Means Committee has also been working on getting DJT's tax returns. One of the Committees has also been working on getting records subpoenaed from DJT's financial management firm and from Deutche Bank, known for Russian money laundering.

A note on #impeachment -

In a court of law, under non-presidential circumstances, impeachment is a tool litigation attorneys use to discredit the opposing side's witnesses at trial. When said witness takes the stand under oath attys. present evidence contrary to what the witness
claims. This weakens the other side's case by discrediting impeached witnesses's testimony. Once a witness has been impeached - by presentment of inconsistent testimony - the judge/jury can no longer use the impeached witnesses's testimony in reaching a verdict.
Simply put, they aren't trustworthy. In the case of Presidential impeachment that broad definition of impeachment applies, but the impeachment tool is used for a very different purpose. Under the Constitution, a sitting President cannot be tried in a court of law for anything.

2. As with most issues before Congress, substance and politics are closely related but distinguishable. As to substance, the argument -- persuasive to me -- is that obstruction of justice, contacts with Russians seeking to influence a US election, corruption and the rest...
3...will do mortal damage to American democracy if tolerated. Not proceeding toward impeachment proceedings means tolerating all of these things, though it is possible to deceive oneself on that point. The political argument @NateSilver538 makes is about American voters.
