A Max Blumenthal interview w/ @RollingStone has prompted a new round of attacks from some who cynically conflate Syria's 2011 protests w/ the Gulf-Turkey-US-backed proxy war. Joe Biden explained the latter pretty well, though he omitted the $1b+ CIA role:
@RollingStone That's Joe Biden -- not a leftist journalist, last time I checked -- acknowledging "the hundreds of millions of dollars and tens… thousands of tons of weapons into anyone who would fight against Assad" particularly "Al-Nusra, and Al-Qaeda and the extremist elements of jihadis."
@RollingStone You can read all about the $1b+ CIA program in this alt-leftist anti-imperialist rag (nytimes.com/2017/08/02/wor…). In this same alt-leftist anti-imperialist rag you can read about how US-backed rebels were bent on committing "sectarian mass murder." nytimes.com/2017/05/24/mag…
@RollingStone In this article you can read more about what US supported in Syria. It also includes interesting info on the 2011 protests, which were not all pro-democracy in nature: already by then, those who threatened "sectarian mass murder" were a strong element. (harpers.org/archive/2019/0…)
