Journeying From Lagos To Onitsha:Check Points

Concerned by the increasing complaints about the pains of Nigerians plying the Lagos-Onitsha route, I decided to seize an opportunity on Wednesday, November 27, 2019 to find out the real situation. For complete experience,
I traveled with one of the transporters at Jibowu. After an excruciating traffic along Redeemed Church corridor, we finally commenced the journey to Onitsha at 10:30am. By the time we arrived the Niger Bridge, I had counted 60 checkpoints. I was painstakingly taking notes and few
shots. These checkpoints were manned by either soldiers, police, customs, SARS, FRSC or a combination. Below are the locations of the checkpoints to guide your next trip to Onitsha.

LAGOS TO ORE:
1. Ilisan - Police checkpoint just in front of Babcock University

1/ I read today’s @NYTimes piece on #Opportunity Zones. A few thoughts: nytimes.com/2019/08/31/bus…
2/First reaction: it's impossible to say that Opportunity Zones have been a “Bonanza” for anyone. We are in *such* early days. Opportunity Zone funds will not have any returns for ten years, minimum (this was intentional, it’s patient capital!)
3/ The narrative that a “wave of developments” is happening is not yet true. Opportunity Zone funds across the country have raised less than 10% of their goals. It is a new market and most people are very cautious.

When I was 11 or 12 I would spend hours poring over sheets of graph paper or Google SketchUp drawings where I carefully designed and rendered my own Mars rover. I even built a mock-up robotic arm out of scrap wood, tin flashing, and wingnuts.

A THREAD: We astarted working on Nigeria in 1967 & issued our first report in 1968. All through these years; through dark days of military rule in 1990’s we remained resolute that; Nigerians must live with dignity. No one can violate rights of #Nigerians and go away with it.
Sometimes we get harsh responses; authorities often unleash blanket dismissal of our reports, without counter facts or figures. Like in other countries we are always have uneasy relationship with violators of human rights and their supporters.
During the days of Gen. Yakubu Gowon we raised our voice on atrocities committed during civil war. Betweern 1969-1970 we wrote Gen. Gowon concerning arbitrary arrests, ill-treatment and even killing of former Biafrans in former Biafran areas, particularly in the Port Harcourt.
