I’ve been #YangGang for months, nearly maxed out my donations, made original tweets to explain @AndrewYang’s policies, and Yanged people in real life. Grateful and proud for all I’ve learned here, I’d like to share what I appreciate and what I’d like to see improve. 1/8
The MSM are falling short, for @AndrewYang and all of us. They treat politics like sport, not speaking to commonality, but setting one side against another. A pervasive partisan undertone distorts everything and demonizes everyone. We all become depressed and hopeless. 2/8
Misunderstanding and distrust grow deeper every day. In this polarized environment, #YangGang provides a safe space for all kinds of people to talk openly about their thoughts. I learned here that people are more alike than not, regardless of affiliation. 3/8
Everyone, everyone is tired of corruption and laziness in politics and media. We all want government to solve the real problems. We all want to look after each other better. It turns out that what is common among people is their humanity! 4/8
As #YangGang grows and grows, so does the diversity in our preferences and opinions. We won’t agree on everything. And this is good—we can share our cultures and ways of thinking. Armed with this knowledge, we’re better prepared to Yang people in the real world. 5/8
But to benefit from our shared knowledge, we all (myself included) must be good listeners and understand others’ perspectives and concerns. #YangGang’s passion to preach facts and numbers, or correct misperceptions, can be overwhelming to those on its receiving end. 6/8
The most delicious food in the world will not be appreciated if shoved down someone’s throat. We want everyone to enjoy the experience, take time to chew, to taste, to swallow and digest ideas so they will willingly come back for more. 7/8
It was by listening that @AndrewYang won over such a diverse crowd of supporters. The safe space to have genuine conversations is what’s special about #YangGang. The more we can be kind and gentle, the stronger we will get. 8/8
