Believing in "meritocracy" is... problematic

If you see a system that delivers 90% dominance (supremacy?) by a 10-20% minority of humans...

a) It is systemic bias (Unfair)
Or
b) meritocracy

If you assume meritocracy is at play, *that means you think supremacy is merited* 😳😬
I can't fathom how people believe in meritocracy when the outcomes are so skewed.

If you therefore reason that a system like that cannot be meritocratic, it is ipso facto unfair.

Then the question is simple: what you gonna do to change that?
I would love to see a meritocratic system. I'm almost 50 years old and have never seen one, not even in the most egalitarian societies.

I see a massively tilted playing field.
To be at the top of such a (tilted) playing fiield is not a personal achievement, nor worthy of much celebration.
It is a responsibility, a burden, to use whatever power you hold to level the field.

If that means elbowing a few winners to make space... So be it
Ultimately, it is not simply about the application of power (or bias), but about it's direction

Punch down or punch up? Push down or lift up?

No false equivalency. Bias is a vector, not a scalar

I'm biased against "winners" because I am one and I know exactly how I got here
Signalling is also a vector. We signal to each other in order to strengthen and reinforce our social norms.

Virtue signaling and malice signaling are not equivalent.

We all signal, that's how society works. Choose the right direction to signal.
Now please watch carefully in the replies. A lot of people will "out" themselves as supremacists of various kinds by explaining how the outcomes are entirely merited.

They are emboldened because malice signalling has become celebrated. They're getting kudos from fellow bigots
Don't be afraid to clap back when that happens. Don't let them carry on and lull themselves into believing it's ok, the world is just right, they earned it. They know, deep down they didn't. That's why they're so angry.
I love everyone equally. But I certainly don't value everyone or their opinions equally. Some opinions are like assholes. Everyone has them, they stink

Goodnight
