A federal judge ordered the release of the financial disclosure forms former Acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker submitted to the Justice Department before his filings were formally accepted by ethics officials: politico.com/news/2019/12/0…
We've been investigating the former acting attorney general's financial conflicts and his failure to disclose political contributions he received during his time at the Justice Department: americanoversight.org/investigation/…
Whitaker also sat on the advisory board of a company called World Patent Marketing which was accused of defrauding customers. Emails from the Federal Trade Commission released in 2018 via FOIA show that he defended the company's actions:

We also obtained the documents, which include an email showing that Whitaker replied to a customer's complaint by touting the fact that he is a "former United States Attorney for the Southern District of Iowa" and called their concerns "blackmail." documentcloud.org/documents/5683…

Obstruction of Congress is one of two articles of impeachment the House is voting on today. Here’s a thread on what it is, why it matters, and why President Trump’s conduct has met that standard.
The United States has three separate, co-equal branches of government. Co-equal is the key point here. To prevent our country from becoming a monarchy or a dictatorship, the legislative branch must have authority to oversee the executive branch.
This doesn’t mean Congress is supreme and can do whatever it wants. There *are* legitimate cases in which the executive branch has reasonable arguments for refusing to provide info to Congress. This is where questions of executive privilege and national security often come up.

Today, Acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker announced that the Department of Justice has amended the regulations of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), clarifying that bump stocks fall within the definition of “machinegun” under federal law,
as such devices allow a shooter of a semiautomatic firearm to initiate a continuous firing cycle with a single pull of the trigger.
