The idea that nearly 2 billion are so helpless that they depend on the beneficence of glaciers and Westerners casts that many Asians as useless, needy and feckless puppets in a green morality tale.

Greens: "OMG, billions are at risk of water insecurity!".

Asians: "Nah, we're gonna build a dam."

Greens: "OMFG! THEY'RE BUILDING DAMS FFS! STOP THEM!"
Environmentalists are worse than climate change. Fact.
The trick is always the same: take the number of people who live downstream of a glacier, and claim that all that number face 'risks' of water shortage when the glacier changes.

Ignore: technology, economic development, monsoons.

It only gets harder to take climate scientists seriously.
If you don't believe there is a problem with the BBC's coverage of the issue and its editorial policy, and if you cannot challenge it when manifestly science has lost control of the debate, you're not 'communicating'. You're doing the opposite of communicating.
"The critical period is now" is not science.

It is political messaging.

Scientists have lost the ability to understand the difference.

Here is the @Conservatives manifesto pledges on net zero.

They do not explain how any of it will be achieved without hardship, and without reducing standard of living, income or opportunities.
@Conservatives The only people who will see any benefit from these policies are Conservative Party cronies.
@Conservatives They claim "we will help lower energy bills by investing £9.2bn in the energy efficiency of homes, schools and hospitals".

£9.2bn is roughly £340 per home in the UK.

How will that "help lower energy bills"?

Nothing that this Govt. has been doing since the presentation of the annual budget, which in itself was such a joke, makes any sense. Many tell me it is plain stupidity & incompetence, but I refuse 2 believe any Govt can be so naive & clueless as this. Just bewildered.
Nothing makes sense. The budget was no budget, just a fudge. Sovereign bonds a huge error. RBI capital surplus transfer 2 fix a hole in the budget. NBFC mess addressed with bandaid. Denial of slowdown when economy was tanking. FF tax cuts in anticipation of RCEP.
Houston to fix a trade deal with US fiasco. WopHaN to fix RCEP also ending in fiasco. Blundering into Kashmir without an exit plan.

Total recklessness resulting in train wrecks everywhere. What the hell is going on?

1/ 20 years ago today I fell in love with a weird, under-promoted cyberpunk kung fu movie called THE MATRIX. In celebration of this anniversary, here is a deep thread about the lore of #TheMatrix universe. Come along with me, and I’ll show you how deep the rabbit hole goes.
2/ The seminal first film in the trilogy hints at a world that goes far deeper than what we see on screen. Its two sequels (and a plethora of tie-in content) deepen the surrounding universe hugely, but even these don’t tell the whole story.
3/ (Some of the lore is detailed fairly well in the Architect scene in RELOADED, but it's hard to parse the information inside the over-complicated dialogue. Oh btw, total spoilers for the franchise here.)

Nothing gives the lie to the inanity of free market ideology, that when India was starving, the British *banned* voluntary aid & charity, raised taxes on the poor (but not the rich) landowners, & enforced mercantile collusive monopoly prices, all in the name of the free market.
In the US & Europe, this is most obvious with the use of criminal policy, as Harcourt & Mirowski point out, where boycotts, aid to the homeless, panhandling, trademark infringement, vagrancy, non-payment of debt, IP usage, etc all in the name of free markets (or free speech lol)
In each case, a clear restriction is placed on voluntary production, exchange, and use of property, enforced by criminal law, thus, by any reasonable definition, on 'free commerce/trade' or 'private property', all for the stated sake of preserving those things.

Rep Jeff Flake of Arizona & Paul Hodes of New Hampshire requested release of the evidence. However, under the circumstances of this case and the risk of prejudice to any pending criminal investigation, among other concerns, the Board was unable to grant their request.

Hell, I've been giving "beware of ICO" talks all year, and we have been pointing out flaws in so-called "whitepapers" everywhere.

But no, people wanted to do their PoCs, wasting tons of money, not to mention taking it.

The first item I’d like to point out, is that a better term we should use would be undocumented immigrant. “Illegal alien” creates and perpetuates the stigma that these people are inherently bad, or criminal. The reality is that they are just seeking a better life.
Probably the biggest misunderstanding is that everyone should simply just immigrate legally, when in reality there’s nothing simple about it. There are very specific and restrictive criteria one must meet in order to immigrate to the U.S. legally.
