#Supergirl thoughts: After the scenes w/Alex & Lena in the 1st hr of Crisis, I'm realizing Lena has ever more good reason to believe the worst about the Danvers sisters. Honestly, I thought her trauma was leading her to jump to conclusions, assuming that Kara never cared for her.
That she was just being paranoid, & while I sympathized, I thought she was lying to herself to keep from getting hurt again. But given what she said to Alex, it's clear that she has *very* good reasons for assuming they never cared for her & were in fact using her all along
As far as she can tell, in S4, Alex pretended to distrust and dislike Supergirl to build trust and comradery with Lena. Lena doesn't know about the mind wipe, so the only logical explanation is that Kara and Alex conspired w/nefarious intent, to manipulate Lena
Kara's explanation for why she lied to Lena for so long might be believable on its own, but how else is she supposed to interpret Alex's behavior last season? And feeling like Alex was intentionally manipulating her like that, how can she trust that Kara wasn't in on it?
What other explanation is there than that the Danvers sisters have been conspiring for years to manipulate her by pretending to care, pretending to let them in on their friend group, in order to use her for her Luthor connection and her brilliant mind?
What she has to assume about Alex last season not only casts Kara's motives into suspicion, but also James and J'onn. Especially given how hurt and betrayed, and now, probably paranoid, she is feeling. James pretended to fall in love with her, to lower her defenses further.
Kara encouraged her to pursue James, remember? And Lena is fully aware of what Martians can do to people's minds. She has no reason to make the connection that J'onn wiped Alex's mind last season, but following along this train of reasoning, it's not that big a leap to assume...
that J'onn has been messing with her mind to make her more susceptible to Kara and Alex and James' lies this whole time.

Is any of that true? No, of course not. But Lena has no way of knowing that, yet, and her trust has been shattered. She probably feels like her entire life
for the past three years has been a complete fabrication. Hell, what she can safely assume the Superfriends were doing to her is basically gaslighting. In that light, I totally understand the bitterness, the complete loss of any faith in humanity, and the certainty that it isn't
safe to ever love or trust anyone ever again. Not unless she makes it so that people can do this to each other, which has been her goal this season. The methods are wrong, & honestly a little horrifying. But even through all of this, I think her heart is still in the right place
It's remarkable that she didn't become a villain. That she won't kill and that she will work with the DEO and Supergirl when innocent lives are on the line. Given what she likely thinks they did to her, she would have every right to believe that they are the villains.
But she did love care. She did care for Alex. Those feelings were real for her, even if she thinks both the Danvers were faking it the whole time. Some part of her desperately wants to believe this is a horrible misunderstanding. You can see her slip up and smile and banter
with both Alex and Kara at times this season. She's fighting an internal war between her "knowledge" that they must have never cared, must have been manipulating and deceiving her this entire time and her deep sense of love and trust for them that even now still calls to her
Is any of this an excuse for rushing the use of technology that probably no one person should be able to wield unilaterally, no matter how good their intentions?

Absolutely not. But wow, this whole thing is more complicated than I initially considered.
