Ok, here goes. Why I, as a #GreenNewDeal / climate voter & 2016 Bernie supporter am supporting @ewarren in the primary:
1. There is no Green New Deal w/ our fixing our Democracy. As far as I can tell, Warren is prioritizing Democracy reform more than any other candidate— her anti-corruption platform, eliminating the filibuster, plans to support voting rights— w/ out this on Day 1, we lose.
Our government is fundamentally broken. We need to fix it ASAP in order to make it responsive the the millions of people who will be mobilized for climate in 2021.
2. Warren has proven she is responsive to grassroots organizing. She doesn’t just get people to rallies to support her, she LISTENS. She brings in stakeholders. We will need this as we navigate the climate crisis.
3. She has THIRTEEN comprehensive climate plans. Not only are they bold, but they contain a level of detail that makes them actionable on day 1. I never in my wildest dreams thought I’d see a presidential candidate w/ a plan for marine biodiversity & coastal resiliency.
4. Back to the listening: She has proven that she is a team player who will accept good ideas from all corners— like she did w/ @JayInslee’s proposals. In an all hands on deck moment like this we need that kind of leader.
5. She has proven her ability to leverage mass movements while building in-government coalitions to get things done. We need someone who can get something through the senate— and who also is working to take it back— which she is.
6. Finally, I think Warren uniquely has the ability to use the regulatory apparatus to tackle climate from all sides. She isn’t going to focus on just one big bill, she’ll hit the #climatecrisis from all sides.
There it goes typos and all! I know lots of people will argue with me or yell at me. But this is something I’ve thought deeply about. Bernie is my very close 2nd choice— but I think Warren will be more effective at actually enacting climate policy if elected.
No one knows the future, least of all me. But here’s my guess.
It’s pretty incredible for our 🌎 to have 2 good choices.
Also worth noting that no matter who is elected, we will need a mass mobilization in 2021 for a #GreenNewDeal.
And why I’m voting for Warren in the @sunrisemvmt poll. If I had the option to vote for both— I would, but had to choose one.
Ok 1 more. I’m genuinely concerned Bernie puts all his capital into an unwinnable M4A fight w/ a gridlocked senate while the planet keeps burning. Warren’s plan allows her to spend her 1st hundred days on Democracy reform & Green New Deal, which I believe is what we need.
