Things that make me go Hmmmmmm - Fans who believe everything in the newspaper & think they know the real story - GTFO!
Time to set the record straight on this non-story that became a story in the summer of 2017 - It started with @IanBegley tweet that was based off a tweet by @12upSport - I'll always SMDH at Ian giving weight to this non-story by tweeting it on his platform
The video in question was posted by @Cbrickley603 - It's no longer linked to the tweet but it shows Melo running late at night around a New York Park with Brick exhorting him on - What most people might not know is that Brickley was employed by @nyknicks during my tenure.
It's important to understand the relationship I had with @Cbrickley603 when I was with @nyknicks - Chris would often come into my office & we would talk shop. I like Chris a lot & have respect for his knowledge & love of the game. He connects with people and players.
'@PhilJackson11 also respects & likes @Cbrickley603 - He chose Brick to lead draft workouts under his tutelage for the 2014 @NBA draft. I know Chris gained a lot from that experience & gained a lot of hoops wisdom from his interactions with PJ during his tenure with @nyknicks
'@Cbrickley603 posted the workout on his twitter site - Brick has mastered the art of self promotion - he's the only trainer in the game who has a shoe deal. There are two people in the video - One you can see - Melo & the other is Brick, who you can hear.
The video @IanBegley linked from @12upSport amazingly captures me sharing @Cbrickley603's Melo post with @ALLAN_HOUSTON & @scmills as I comment on Brick's enthusiastic style of coaching - Brick had just left the @nyknicks to become a full time trainer - Smart move on his part.
The New York media being who they are, think they have a story, when they really don't have Jack - so you get B.S. like this & all you can do is take it -
How did my infamous response to @IanBegley's question come about - it's half time of a summer league game in Orlando. I was speaking with an agent. Unbeknownst to me New York scribes were on the prowl trying to get a response about this non-story.
They went up to @scmills & asked him a ? - Steve being a class guy, says "no comment". I turn around after talking to the agent & see 5 NY scribes ready to pounce & ask me a question. I'm not a spokesman for the club, so I'm not allowed to speak on behalf of the club.
'@IanBegley is the first to ask me a question - I quickly ponder if I should engage them on this issue & instinctively say what most @NBA front office people wish they could say when confronted with B.S. - "GTFO of here with that!"
I go back to my seat - @IanBegley shouts at me "Why did you curse at me, Clarence" - I say nothing & think to myself, Ian, if I was cursing at you & not the question/situation I would have said FU! Have a lot of respect for Ian's work but disagree with him highlighting the tweet
Two New York beat writers had written a feature on me before the 2017 draft - @NYPost_Berman & @YaronWeitzman --
they warily approach me to ask me what I thought about their features. I take it back, Marc never warily approaches anyone.
So that's what really happened; but once the narrative is in the public domain, it's virtually impossible to turn the tide. So I fully expect to still get messages from fans who don't know the score who think I & other @nyknicks executives were dissing Melo. Stay ME7O in 2020!
