'@JCMacriNBA asked if I had a reaction to today’s news that I'd be willing to share?" Of course I do. I haven't watched last 3 @nyknicks games, but when I saw the score I watched to see if they quit on @CoachFizdale - They didn't - They just got their ass kicked. {Thread coming}
@JCMacriNBA @nyknicks @CoachFizdale RE Coaching change - earlier in year I was asked should @CoachFizdale be fired -- my response was "I'll never answer a ? like this - Only someone who is intimately involved with an organization can make that determination."
Those with @nyknicks who are intimately involved have spoken. They fired @CoachFizdale & Keith Smart - such are the ways of @NBA. We can all have our opinions on why Fiz deserved to be fired, but when you live with it on a daily basis only their reasons matter. The deed is done.
I have a simple philosophy when it comes to team sports - Play Hard, Play Smart, Play Together & let's have fun. Did the @nyknicks Play Hard -I think so - rarely did I think the main concerns revolved around effort/toughness. Playing smart & coaching smartly; therein lies the rub
What @CoachFizdale did or didn't do is not important. What's important is to see the changes Mike Miller will make in terms of strategy & personnel (starters, lineups, rotations, etc.) I always liked my interactions with Mike - rooting hard for him.
Mike Miller was rec to PJ by Frank Hamblen b/c of his familiarity with triangle. PJ passed on the rec to Allan Houston & Allan hired him for @wcknicks Mike has a nice coaching temperament & solid background. Understanding a system offense like triangle gives 1 a solid foundation
Will Mike Miller run the triangle offense? I think you know the answer to that question but if you can coach the triangle you can coach anything. That's what I mean by it gives one a solid foundation, especially to the value of a system play on offensive end.
One may ask how did Mike come to understand the triangle offense. Jim Wooldridge hired Mike to be his assistant at Kansas State. Woolridge ran the triangle & was a member of Tim Floyd's staff @chicagobulls for one year when Tex Winter was still an assistant.
I believe Mike ran the triangle after he left Kansas State & took a head coaching position at Eastern Illinois. Coached again with Woolridge at UC Riverside before moving on to @austin_spurs -- Is Miller the right man for the job on a long term basis? We shall see.
In 2009 @brianmccormick asked "So, is a coaching change the way to fix an organization? How can we evaluate a coach to ensure that the next hire is a great coach?" I answered the question which I later turned into a blog post. Providing Link & excerpt cgscoutperspective.blogspot.com/2011/03/do-bas… Image
