Should Jews buy guns? It's complicated: A Thread.

Simply owning a weapon makes you about as capable of defending yourself as owning a guitar makes you capable of playing like the rolling stones.

Being gung-ho can endanger the people around you:
Here's an example:

In a Yishuv I sometimes visit for weekends there is a guy who has both an M-16 and a pistol on him in synagogue. The rifle has a flashlight on it. My questions are: what does he need it for? Has he practiced clearing a house by himself? >>
Has he trained with professionals in when to use white light and when it will endanger himself and others?

He also has two magazines on him. What engagement does he plan on getting into that will require 60 rounds (n/m the pistol). >>>
Has this man practiced transitioning from his primary to secondary? Has he drilled when this is necessary either because something jams or because of the situation.

I can only assume that the answer is no. In this case it just seems like a dude who wants to play army.
When I wonder what would happen if someone were to attack the yishuv or the synagogue, my brain identifies him as a potential issue.

America doesn't need those people. They need people who take firearm training and know how to use weapons proficiently.
This goes for everyone, not just Jews: If you aren't going to take the time to learn the weapon you are using, how to operate it safely and how to utilize it effectively don't get one. You are just endangering the people around you.
I personally think that any Jew who dosn't at least support their right to bear arms is naive and ignorant of the lessons history has to teach; if they choose not to exercise it that is their right as well.

Take a CPR class; take a first responder class
There is a reason that in the military some people are machine gunners and some people are medics: Both are necessary skills for defending yourself and your community.

The world was never worse off for one more Medic or first responder.
In case any of this was unclear; here's a video:
