Indeed, and if we weren't so deranged with partisanship, we might have a productive national conversation about our conflicted foreign policy aspirations and the way they manifest themselves in incoherent FP.
One begins to suspect that the foaming partisanship serves a useful emotional purpose: It prevents us from having to be that honest with ourselves.
If we weren't all so busy denouncing Trump or Obama--and each other--we might have to ask ourselves whether, for example, the goals of "ending endless war" and "rolling back Russia/Iran/ISIS in the Middle East" are actually compatible. For example. Who wants to think about that?

Only 26% had heard of him but 43% approve of whacking him? What are we, bloodthirsty animals?

To know who Suleimani was is to think, "I can't be sorry he's dead." But if you didn't know? Why would you feel that way?
This reminds me of that poll that suggested 30% of the American public would favor bombing Agrabah.
I suppose the low number of people who'd heard of him also explains the passionate objection to killing him.

we'd immediately think that this story supports *both* narratives. There should be fewer guns in the hands of bad guys, and more in the hands of good guys. The policy focus should be ensuring this.
It's obviously *very* relevant that the good guys, here, were highly trained and qualified. No rational person would oppose their ownership of a firearm.

But any rational person would oppose the assailant's.

Okay one parting shot: I’m mad at the Star Wars prequels for turning the Jedi into a corrupt establishment organization whose extermination seemed like it might be justifiable on some level, instead of using the Jedi as a lens for religious persecution and genocide
Like imagine if instead of being a vast organization with hundreds of members acting as government operatives, they were a small and mostly ignored religious sect that included both Force-sensitive warriors and non-sensitive followers of the Force

Britain once launched its own rockets. Today the last legacy of that will pass overhead.

She's called Prospero. And she's our only independently launched satellite.

She was launched from Australia in October 1971, on top of our own rocket launcher: Black Arrow

This was the result of some British lateral thinking after WW2. America had nicked all the German V2 rocket scientists so we nicked the engineers and soldiers who'd launched them.
Prospero is the legacy of this brilliant piece of rocketry on the cheap. We were doing High Test Peroxide launchers while everyone else was still on solids.

Bluntly: we were doing HTP DECADES before everyone in Silicon Valley decided it was cool and super-efficient.
