Found this useful framework from a favorite psychologist Roy Baumeister

Most useful take away: “The 4:1 ratio”

Since bad experiences are 4x more salient than good—you need 4x good to balance (whether in personal relationships, pleasing customers...) wsj.com/articles/for-t…
Here are 4 useful takeaways—
1. “Do not harm”

Avoiding bad is far more important than doing good.

You get relatively LITTLE credit for doing MORE than you promised but pay a BIG price for FALLING SHORT...
2. More on the ‘Rule of Four’ — it takes four good things to overcome one bad thing...
3. Put Bad Moments to Good use

PENALTIES are usually more effective than REWARDS—

*...Which is why hell-fearing religions have historically grown after than ones preaching positive messages...

*...the self-esteem movement is a sorry mistake in psychology.
4. “Capitalize” Good.

...SHARE good moments with others to amplify them + add significance in the presence AND salience to the memory of the moment—to be relived later...
5. Get Perspective—

Don’t let the salience of short-term negative events consume. Pay attention to the long-term big picture trends of positivity.

I dont agree w/ ignorance of truth—for sake of happiness—

that can be a dangerous drug of distraction

2. Happy accidents + SURPRISE

So, the lights are (turning) off, and Beto's run for President has concluded. I'm sad. I'm disappointed. I'm discouraged. A Presidential run that started off with so much hope and optimism ended prematurely, and without the result that so many of us were hoping for.
2/ I just spent the last 30-40 minutes looking through a ton of news coverage that I had archived links to over the last 7.5 months since Beto's campaign launched. I compiled them in terms of positive, neutral, and negative coverage.
3/ Beto was covered by the news media overwhelmingly negatively, and it didn't matter who the outlet was. It could have been the WaPo Opinion page, MSNBC, Washington Examiner, NY Times, you name it, it was generally overwhelmingly negative for the majority of his campaign.

1. The Democrat plan to retake, subjugate and impose socialism upon Americans requires a lot to change.
The American Republic is way too strong in its current form for socialism to take hold. Plus our first & second amendment rights are anathema to despotic aspirations.
2. The heart of America is in its small towns and rural areas. Small town and rural living inculcates a fierce independence. Wide open spaces, driving cars and owning weapons for hunting and self-defense produce a citizenry willing to fight for their rights.
3. City living on the other hand breeds conformity, public transportation and broad swaths of people living on government largese.
Second amendment rights don't exist in large cities. And nobody bats an eyelid. Everybody competes for resources, it's a rat race and there's typhus.
