Shiro doesn't even remember buying it. One minute he's staring at the display, entranced by the riot of colors, and the next he's in his bathroom, staring at himself in the mirror with the slim metal tube laying in his hand.
He doesn't even put it on that first day, he's too nervous. He brings it out most days after that, stares at the bright bullet, snaps the cap on and off, twists the soft pink lipstick in and out of the tube. Everything about it fascinates him, ensnares him.
He's not sure why he likes it so much, but it's nice to have something secret and pretty, just for himself.
He's had a miserable, tiring day of drills and meetings and more drills, and he decides fuck it, he's finally going to try it out. He pulls it out like he's done so many times before, leans in to the mirror and starts to apply the lipstick with a shaky hand.
It's harder than he thought it would be. He takes a deep breath, tries to calm his suddenly rapid heartbeat. It's just some lip color, what's the big deal.
It's more velvety smooth than he'd been imagining for weeks. He goes a bit outside the line of his lips but it's okay; it's still perfect.
Although there had been an array of colors available, Shiro had felt drawn to a simple light pink. There was a light shimmer to it, almost pearlescent. His eyes were glued to his lips in the mirror.
Shiro wipes his lips on the back of his hand and admires the color against his skin, moving his hand so the shade catches the light. There's a smudge of pink near the corner of his mouth, and it makes him smile.
He falls asleep that night with the same smile on his face.
