Pete Buttigieg’s first event of the day is a Town Hall at the Madison County Fairgrounds here in reliably Republican Winterset, IA. 
Speaking in Winterset, Pete Buttigieg says, "I see, by the way, that there are a lot of folks in this room who served our country in uniform and I want to thank you for your service," adding, "We honor troops by making sure that endless wars come to an end."
Pete Buttigieg got a question on how he'd stop e-cigarette use in high school students-- he told Iowans in Winterset, "I believe the burden has to be on these companies to demonstrate that they are not causing harm rather than on regulators to demonstrate that they are."
On conversion therapy, Buttigieg told Iowans, "the LGBTQ community, on one hand has seen tremendous progress...but because of that extraordinary progress, I think there's a risk of thinking that the struggle for equality ended when marriage equality became the law of the land."
Pete Buttigieg was also asked about military sexual assault-- he said, "We need to rewire the system to make sure that service members have access to justice, and that the kinds of access to justice and recourse that a civilian would have are the floor, not the ceiling."
Pete Buttigieg also took special care to praise Senator Kirsten Gillibrand's work on the Military Justice Improvement Act, telling Iowans, "We need to get that moved through the Senate. I will sign it."
A man asked Buttigieg how he could speak for working class Americans while holding high-$ fundraisers-- he said, "his is a legitimate conversation to have...we need to go into this fight with everything that we've got," and pointed out his fundraisers are open to pooled press.
And the final question for Pete Buttigieg in Winterset came from 11-yo Edward Kennedy. Edward is the mayor of his Urbandale, IA school and dressed the part today, sporting Buttigieg's signature trail uniform-- he asked the former mayor what he'd do to address climate change.
