LSU cancelled all classes, for everyone, for two days, because its football team is playing for the national championship.

Obviously LSU's professional football players aren't there for the classes, but this is some next-level stuff.

Do the Warren/Sanders "free public college" proposals include LSU, or would it only apply to actual schools?
If the @ncaa actually cared about students, it would bar schools from engaging in this kind of nonsense.

But the NCAA only cares about one thing: Making money.

Four years ago, the Republican presidential candidates met for a debate at that library, with that plane as the backdrop.

They were asked what we should do about climate change.

And they fought for the chance to tell the moderates and the audience that we should do nothing.
At that debate on September 16, 2015, Marco Rubio declared, "We are not going to make America a harder place to create jobs in order to pursue policies that will do absolutely nothing, nothing to change our climate, to change our weather."

Chile is the poster child for extreme economic inequality in a developed country. I spent time there last year for my book (which has a chapter on Chile) and what I found hardest to understand is why there wasn't more political unrest. Now there is.

A few choice facts about Chile and inequality:

In Chile, the social security system is basically designed to redistribute wealth from the masses to the rich, because workers are required to put their savings into private investment funds that charge ridiculous fees.
The commitment to private industry runs deep. If the available water is sufficient either for drinking or growing avocados... well, you get the idea.

Frank Barrows hired me to work for the Charlotte Observer. Then he convinced me to become a business journalist. He was a good man and a great editor. RIP. charlotteobserver.com/news/local/art…
I'll always remember what Frank Barrows told me when he was convincing me to cover banking. He said the stories about people are also about money, and the stories about money are also about people. It's a great piece of wisdom.
My other favorite thing about Frank Barrows is when he was struggling with a hard story he would take off his belt and literally strap himself into his chair.

Hello, my name is Kristin and I have never seen a single Star War.

After learning some incredible facts about moisture farming from @jowrotethis I’ve decided to watch every movie over the span of one week beginning with the original trilogy.
Things I know so far:

- Luke is a moisture farmer
- Leia is Luke’s sister but it was weird for a minute
- Darth is Annakin and he was mostly bad but his small head saved Luke in the end, oh and Luke is his son
- Yoda
- R2D2 and C3PO are robots
- Siths are bad
- There are many planets and they have different eco systems
- Chewy makes funny noises
- Storm Troopers exist. I forget if they are good or bad but p sure they are bad
- Death Stars are very big and where siths hang out

The University of North Florida men’s basketball team is playing against Florida National University tonight at 7 at the UNF Arena.
There has been a great turn out. The stadium is full of students, faculty, and other UNF men’s basketball fans.
The entire audience raises their hands and does the iconic “swoop” motion with every successful free throw.

One of the best things Dabo Swinney ever did was closet Clemson’s orange pants for nearly two seasons. (Thread)
Clemson first wore their famous “orange britches” under Danny Ford in a 1980 game against #14 South Carolina. The Tigers upset the Gamecocks that day, likely saving Ford’s job, and propelling Clemson to a national championship run the next season.
Coach Ford brought out the orange pants 17 more times, but only on special occasions and when the Tigers had earned them, famously denying the request to wear them against Georgia in 1983. Clemson would go 16-2 in orange pants under Ford, winning 5 ACC titles and a national title

A few interesting things about the #Skripal briefing:
Apparently the parfume bottle was a strange Nina Ricci fake. It's not particular clear how to apply a gel with it.
The two suspects had a room in the CityStay Hotel near Bow Road. The investigators took samples on 4th May (one month after the suspects left). Two samples had harmless traces of Novichok. "Just to be sure" they took new samples from the same spots and found nothing.
The investigators explained the negative result by "brushing away" the Novichok when they took the first samples. It means they had a lot of luck in the first place to find the invisible spots on the wall and accidentally decontaminated the hotel room with a cotton swap.
