Four years ago, the Republican presidential candidates met for a debate at that library, with that plane as the backdrop.

They were asked what we should do about climate change.

And they fought for the chance to tell the moderates and the audience that we should do nothing.
At that debate on September 16, 2015, Marco Rubio declared, "We are not going to make America a harder place to create jobs in order to pursue policies that will do absolutely nothing, nothing to change our climate, to change our weather."
Chris Christie: "In fact we don’t need this massive government intervention to deal with the problem."
The moderator wanted to move on. It was already late in the debate. Climate change wasn't one of those important issues that you needed to get an answer from everyone.

But Scott Walker insisted on jumping in, to say that the real issue was the preservation of manufacturing jobs.
The moderator tried again to move on to another issue. This time Rand Paul could not allow the opportunity to pass.

"If you want a skeptic," Paul interjected, "if you want a skeptic, Jake, I will happily jump into that briar patch."
And now the briar patch is on fire.
