Remember the Jeff Bezos 'hacking' story? Famous man sends dick pics to woman-not-his-wife. She's chatty with friends; brother is 'loose cannon...incorrigible gossip' who sends stuff to National Enquirer. And somehow it gets out! 1/6
Bezos puts PR army to work. He's been hacked! Points finger at Saudis, maybe Trump, too. Writes widely-quoted Medium post darkly hinting it's all retaliation for WashPost courageous support of murdered writer Jamal Khashoggi. 2/6

A few notes on Joe Biden in Des Moines Sunday, last rally before caucus. 1) Seems open question whether he has vigor required for long, hard campaign. 2) His contemporary surrogates, like Chris Dodd and John Kerry, underscore that he is a man of the past.
3) Biden did not electrify anyone from the stage. Spent first several minutes recognizing guests. 4) Important: He never got anywhere near Democrats' most important issues. In 20+ minutes, no mention of healthcare...
In 20+ minutes, Biden made no mention of climate change. No mention of gun violence. No mention of jobs. No mention of education. One vague reference to strengthening middle class. Spent most time meandering around how bad Trump is.

Year 1900: Lt. Cmd. William K Gise (uncle of Lawrence Preston Gise, who was grandad of Jeff #Bezos) was the captain of the USS #Sylph . He was so deeply associated w/ the Presidential Yacht that he reported his full-time residence as being on the USS Sylph for the 1900 US Census.

I am now downloading and reading the handwritten notes of Lieutenant Commander Lawrence Preston Gise (Jeff #Bezos grandad) of the USS #Neunzer from 1943

Must organize all file names, sort, keep source URLs, etc

All notes in cursive, not easy to read

One in 1943 and one in 1944 ?

[1] The German submarine U-505 was the very first foreign navy vessel captured by the United States in WW2. It was June of 1944. It was the first vessel the US captured in nearly 100 years (last was 1840s).

[2] The U-505 is currently on display in Chicago

It was a very difficult capture - the captain left the boat in a a condition to sink to protect the German tech, but the US navy saved her
[3] The Germans did not believe their Enigma codes were compromised during the rest of WW2 because the capture of U-505 was kept a secret

But U-505 was critical to knowing how to break the German codes

As a concept, it's far more interesting than Rose wanting to save her father. Barbara wants to alter the path of an entire culture and not out of some self-interest, but out of a desire to correct a society, to instill "proper" beliefs in the Aztecs.
Her arc in this episode is the same of all of Western colonialism. The idea that West Knows Best. A little Christianity and a lot of servitude go a long way toward making a great society.
Barbara is about to put all of her friends and herself at great danger to "save" a society. All she has to do is condemn one man to death and they're safe. THIS IS COMPELLING. #DoctorWho
