Everybody’s got some kind of database in their head, maybe more than one. Question is what things you are storing up there, and who gets access to that information.
Most things in my memory are organized in a timeline that goes sort of from left to right in my imagination, and I subconsciously file everything new on that timeline. Some people I talk to say "yeah, me too!" but most folks I think have very different methods of recall.
Is there good reading on how different people perceive memory or recall? I'm curious how this stuff varies by culture.
This is super interesting! I wonder if this relates to spatial perception in physical space. (I tend to remember which cardinal direction I was facing or heading for any particular memory, for example.)
