#WajingaNyinyi needs a Wikipedia page:
#WajingaNyinyi syndrome is a condition in which citizens develop a psychological alliance with their elected political leaders after a traumatic reign.
Emotional bonds may be formed, between citizens and the leaders, during periods of sustained distress that are generally considered irrational in light of the suffering or oppression endured by the victims.
The hostages and captives show signs of deep love and commitment to their captors. They defend their captors and show genuine empathy and sympathy for the plight of those tasked with the difficult task of misgovernance.
#WajingiNyinyi syndrome is paradoxical as the captive appears to develop positive feelings towards the captor despite being under duress/threat and they fight for the humanity of the captor even when the captor does not respect the captive’s own humanity.
This term was first used by Kenyan poet @RabbitTheKing in a satirical attempt to diagnose the behavioural tendencies of Kenyan voters fawning over political leaders known for citizen abuse.
Actions and attitudes similar to those suffering from #WajinaNyinyi syndrome have also been found in victims of bank heists, sexual abuse, human trafficking, religious oppression and BBI.
