1/Our esteemed Chief Justice is presiding over a "trial" where the defendant has been the arbiter of what witnesses and evidence would be allowed.

It's an almost unimaginable corruption of the law, and if not remedied will do historic damage to him/the Supreme Court itself.
2/Gravity of the moment cannot be overstated.

Trump/Senate/Roberts on verge of overseeing most corrupt judicial proceeding in our history, one which could make our President a King. Potential for damage to the republic and our democratic institutions truly alarming.

1/At a strategy level, most important thing DNC can do now is shine a light on the New Hampshire primary and the candidates running there. Need to do everything to make the process/Iowa story go away and make it all about the very competitive race for President Dems now have.
2/Would start by appointing a small commission to look into what happened and report back to the DNC executive committee in 30 days. Team at DNC has to look forward, not back. Let others look into what happened, promise full transparency of final report.
3/Discussions have to be made about whether to even release the Iowa results at this point. Keeps the story going, and if there are any doubts would be better to spike the whole thing that keep this debacle in front of the public any longer.

This news blows up Senator Alexander's rationale for not voting for witnesses.

Serial cheating/corruption of sacred democratic processes - elections, trials - requires removal. The election is clearly in danger. House was right to act, now.

Some thoughts on Chief Justice Roberts presiding over the Senate impeachment trial. I hear many people casually say that 51 senators can simply vote to overrule any decision of CJ Roberts. If 51 senators reverse a ruling of CJ Roberts . . .
that could have the look and feel of obstructing justice by assisting the administration in covering up Trump’s crimes. Here’s why: First, under the current Senate rules, Roberts will be in a position to rule on issues of “relevancy and materiality” of witnesses and evidence.
I spent 30 years in courtrooms litigating issues of relevancy and materiality. Any experienced attorney/litigator can tell you that Bolton’s testimony is extremely relevant and material, whereas testimony from the Bidens is neither relevant nor material to...

Highlights: Rules V and VII, provide that the Chief Justice (who presides over the trial) may make all orders and rulings that an ordinary judge would make.
2/
(“May” means he doesn’t have to: He can defer the decision to the Senate.)

The hitch is that even if the Chief Justice does make a ruling, he can be overruled by a majority of Senators.
