Shocking, until you realize that the Republican position on any Republican crime, lie, corruption, or self-serving betrayal of the national interest, is, quite literally, "so what."
There have been in the past political parties to which membership has rightly been considered a moral failing, and in which membership has rightly been considered, all by itself, a disqualification for holding any position of public trust.

The Republican Party is such a party.
They stand for domination, and bigotry, greed, and performative cruelty, and the right to pursue any sort of corrupt activity and to put themselves above every law and authority, in the pursuit of those objectives. The right to do it all openly.

That's the Republican Party.
They're led by one of the worst human beings ever to draw breath, a man whose fathomless vulgarity is the best part of him, as it makes his ignorance, his bigotry, his venality, his cruelty, impossible to conceal.

They follow him with cultish zeal.

That's the Republican Party.
They're alienating us from allies
Openly admiring of authoritarians
Closing borders
Banning travelers
Separating families
Stripping away environmental protections, and social safety nets, needed protections
They sneer at our finest values,
And lie, and lie, and lie.
My position on elections is that no Republican should be allowed to hold office at any level.

We should all make that maxim our baseline guide when voting.
Belonging to such a party as the Republicans have become in 2020 is a disqualifying moral failing for which no excuse exists.

Our way out is to understand this and act accordingly.

Our way out is the complete electoral dismantling of the party.
Having been a Republican in 2020 should be, in the future an automatically disqualifying scandal, the sort of thing that, if discovered, a candidate would have to address in a hasty press conference before withdrawing.

As if they had belonged to the mafia.

Exactly like that.
All hands on deck in 2020. Do whatever you can to the best of your ability. Campaign. Organize. Volunteer. Call-bank. Knock on doors. Donate. Register voters.

And vote.

The election can't just be a wave. It has to be an uprising. A demolition.
They've had their chance to rid themselves of him and they embraced him.

They are what he is. He is what they are.

He wasn't done to them—they summoned him. He's the culmination of decades of strategy, the product of a deep desire for a strongman who will be cruel to *them*.
As a matter of national survival, they can't be permitted to survive this politically.

2020: Demolish the Republican Party.
