it’s 1909 and ~all transit in sf is run by united railroads (left). people hate this company. service is awful, equipment obsolete. their labor relations are bad, leading to employee strikes.

it was so bad, sf workers once threatened to destroy a streetcar. (right)
the there’s patrick calhoun, pres. of united railroads. he sucked. refused workers an 8 hour workday or decent wages. when they striked, he hired strike-breakers and sent out scab workers with guns.

he was also indicted for bribing supervisors for rights to build overhead wires.

#thread 3 years ago I got into a bad car crash while being in a @uber on my way to the airport in Paris. I don’t know what happened exactly as I was asleep when it happened, but the driver ran at full speed into a bus on the highway, 100% his fault.
I woke up covered in blood in a crushed car, looking so bad (this pic is from a few days later, didn’t want to expose the gory hospital pictures) that the emergency doctors decided to block the highway and get me to the hospital via helicopter not to lose a minute.
Luckily I got out of it with just a few scars, the surgeon at the hospital did an amazing job. No brain concussion, eye was miraculously not permanently damaged.

African leaders on Sunday voted to choose Ghana as the new headquarters to House the new Africa free trade zone. Coming with the new trade zone is a new airline hub for Africa to be built in Ghana.

14 years ago Donald Duke had initiated discussions on the need for an airline hub to serve Africa to be situated in calabar. Unfortunately the dream died with Tinapa.

It is important that Africa has its own hub, but unfortunately our political leadership just do not understand
how these things work, so they never take it serious. From Nigeria, to travel to most African countries within Africa, you have to first travel either to Frankfurt or Amsterdam before you can connect to headquarters of most African countries.

45 years ago today, delegates arrived at the Capital Hilton hotel in Washington DC for Day One of the 7th annual World Anti-Communist League (WACL) conference, the first to be hosted in the United States. #thread
A few months before Richard Nixon resigned, the President's Deputy Special Assistant, Burce Herschensohn, delivered the keynote address at WACL-7. Senator Jesse Helms (R-NC) co-chaired the conference with Congressmen Phil Crane (R-IL) and Clement Zablocki (D-WI).
The event was officially hosted by the American Council for World Freedom (ACWF), which had just elected Phyllis Schlafly's husband its new president. As an important member of the ACWF, Lev Dobriansky had a substantial role in organizing the conference.

Thread: Six years ago today, I found out that I have #MultipleSclerosis. A battle I wasn’t prepared for, but with the help of my family and friends, I continue to fight.

I hope my story will help someone else with #MS or a loved one of someone with MS.
I’ve always been in love with athletics and exercise, I played EVERYTHING growing up and that didn’t change as I entered adulthood.

I remained a very active person, so when my body began to feel “off”, I knew something was wrong.
One morning I woke up and my legs didn’t really have sensation, sort of like “pins and needles” when you’ve been sitting too long.

I didn’t think much of it, and I decided to go play football that day anyway. Most of the game I felt fine, but then my legs felt sensation-less.
