A member of #Kenya's Parliament was removed after walking into chambers with her 5-month-old baby.

Zuleikha Hassan, a mother of three, said she came to work with her youngest child after she was unable to find a sitter.

h/t @MissChisomo
What is this “decorum” they use to punish women in legislatures across the world? Rules made by men and for spaces that they believed would always be filled with men and now here come the women and spoil it all! Fuck decorum
She said Parliament lacks a daycare center, though it had promised to provide one in 2013.

"We are trying to encourage more women to come into politics, to come into the workspaces, to get out and help out the economy in other ways, so we have to support them," Zuleikha Hassan

Two lawyers who successfully fought to end #India’s colonial-era laws that criminalized same-sex relations have come out as a couple. Sending love and solidarity to @MenakaGuruswamy and @arundhatikatju news18.com/amp/news/buzz/… h/t @_drongo #LGBTQ 🏳️‍🌈🌈

BIG 🚨 Gregory Dow, of Lancaster, PA, who previously operated an orphanage in #Kenya, known as the "Dow Family Children's Home" was arrested and charged with sexually abusing at least 4 minor girls that were in his care.
The charges allege that he sexually abused, or attempted to sexually abuse the girls between October 2013 and September 2017.

He actually started the "orphanage" in 2008 and claimed to be a Christian missionary. He even received financial support from his church & others.
Looks like there's a Facebook page of his orphanage, but I can't view it.

- Cosmopolitan nature - rich in diversity
Jubaland constitutes 3 administrative regions / provinces:

Je suis assez busy, je vais essayer de rester dans les grandes lignes.

2. COMMENT ON ACQUIERT DES DEVISES

Si on veut des devises, il y a en général deux grandes options:

i. Vendre des biens et des services aux étrangers qui produisent les biens dont on a besoin

ii. Attirer les étrangers dans ton pays pour qu'ils dépensent leurs devises chez toi.

🇰🇪🚉Aight #KOT, listen up! It's time for some train lessons. I'm sick and tired of people like @johnnjenga regurgitating bad/false information about Chinese made railways/locomotives/rolling stock in Africa as part of their debate over whether #Kenya got a bad deal on the #SGR.
@johnnjenga I'm not here to argue that Kenya got value for $ with the SGR or if it's being run properly or not. I'm here to say - stop using invalid points in this debate when you haven't researched. Ya'll look foolish otherwise. Comparing photos of bullet trains with rail yard shunters.🤦🏼‍♂️
@johnnjenga But, but.. high-speed rail in China! The four biggest networks in the world are USA 250,000 km, China 121,000 km, Russia 85,500 km, India 65,000 km. Of these 4, only China (29,000 km) & Russia (1,326 km) have HS railways. HS rail is for passenger service. SGR is freight focused.

Judges in #Kenya have postponed a long-awaited landmark ruling to strike out colonial-era legislation and decriminalize same-sex relations.
The judgment will now be given in late May. amp.theguardian.com/global-develop… #LGBTQ 🌈
The High Court said it needed more time to consider the evidence.
The delay prompted anger and disappointment among campaigners. “I just wish the excuse was better. People’s lives are hanging on the line. Justice has been delayed, but it has not yet been denied,”said Yvonne Oduor
Frank Mugisha, a campaigner for gay rights in #Uganda, said before the ruling that a positive result would encourage other countries to follow #Kenya’s path. #Angola recently decriminalised homosexual sex and courts in #Botswana will decide on the issue next month. #LGBTQ

The hate by Kenyans against Somalia after this diplomatic issue is heart breaking. Let’s remember it takes decades to end a war, but seconds to start one #KenyaVsSomalia #Somalia #Kenya THREAD —->>
Before independence Kenyans sought refuge in Somalia which was a stable State. All refugees were given a monthly stipend my father has taught me that history, because he was one of those refugees
Kenya has a mutually beneficial relationship with Somalia, we will forever be neighbours. So we both stand to loose form any escalation. The only person who benefits is warlords, Alshabab and scrupulous dealmakers. Think about that before you spew hate #SomaliaVsKenya

Fact check Thread about @igadsecretariat Genale- Dawa River Basin impacts Juba River in #Somalia :
1- this agreement only addresses Dawa River, which contributes 10% to Juba vs. 90% Genale & Weebi rivers from #Ethiopia
2- This deal only benefits #kenya
jamhuriyadda.com/2018/02/19/imp…
3-Article 4 requires each gov pays its own study- the priblem is #Somalia is aid dependent country; thus if it can't afford feasibility study, then #Kenya Dawa River study will govern, which could foreclose 10% future water rights of Juba River riprian permanently.
4- the dawa river deal will secure future water right & addresses the #ClimateChange of Mandhere county- unfortunately #Somalia gov failed to recognize a) #Ethiopia gov for excluded Genale River as part of the deal because of recent GD-3 dams built & 3 more dams planned in 2020

1 Thoughts on NYT photo debacle: A friend pointed out to me that #Kenya is a place where large chunks of the population support extra judicial killings and mob lynchings of chicken thieves. The uproar over foreign portrayals of dead Kenyans seems hypocritical in comparison.
2 Criticisms of western media during tragedies play into the hands of the Kenyan state, which needs to distract people from its inability to prevent attacks, but cannot silence or influence foreign media as easily as domestic media. Hence folks like Itumbi leading the charge.
3 Kenya's government tries to conceal the death toll of its troops fighting al Shabab in Somalia. Perhaps if Kenyans were able to know and debate the toll of its foray in Somalia, there would be better public understanding of Shabab's capabilities and better domestic security.

1. Shabaab (Al Qaeda's branch in East Africa) has released a statement on yesterday's attack in #Nairobi, #Kenya. It was published along with an English-language translation. Some points to follow.
2. First, Shabaab says the attacked was carried out by its Saleh An-Nabhan Battalion. This is significant. This same unit -- named for an al Qaeda veteran who was embedded within Shabaab early on -- has carried out a number of high-profile attacks.
3. Nabhan first publicly swore allegiance *on behalf of Shabaab* to al Qaeda's senior leadership in Sept. 2008. Al Qaeda told Shabaab that it didn't want to make the relationship widely known, which some *incorrectly* interpreted as AQ rejecting Shabaab's request for a merger.
