People are like “oh wine snobs are fake, it’s all grape juice and tastes the same”, but I just watched someone nail a blind sample *to the exact bottle* with no possibility of cheating and it’s insanely impressive. Not even a MS or anything!
His logic:
“Slight age in the glass, I’d guess 5-10 years. Lots of black olive, definitely Rhone syrah, 2011-2014. Low in alcohol for Grenache, so it’s northern, and I’m not getting Viogner, so it can’t be Côte-Rôtie. Too structured for St. Joseph, but thin for Hermitage...”

“...My first guess would be a Clape Cornas from 2012, but if it’s not that it’s probably a 2012 Chave” and his second one was 100% correct. This was a 20 mL pour from an unmarked brown bottle into the cheap $1 tasting glasses from the store. Unbelievable. 
Decanting this for 4+ hours before dinner was the right idea. Pheasant mousse, olive tampanade octopus, sweetbreads with capers, NY “strip” steak.
