The US government granted amnesty and full pardon to the white supremacists who tried to overthrow the country to preserve slavery and then their top general Robert E Lee was appointed president of a college where he radicalized other white supremacists to fight racial progress.
The Confederates weren’t jailed, not imprisoned. No accountability for the crime of white supremacist terrorism and treason. Rehabilitation, restoration of power and privilege. Meanwhile Black people had a few years of Reconstruction and then a century of Jim Crow.
And they *continued* participating in white supremacist terrorism, joining the KKK and overthrowing local governments that supported some semblance of racial equity. With all their rights restored, using them to enact a white supremacist agenda.
We have enough data and documentation to begin issuing reparations BTW. At minimum, we can restore voting rights to people who’ve been disenfranchised and/or deported instead of granted at least the same lenience as the Confederates after the war.
