One of the most obvious signs of a fascist regime is that the Defense Services start emerging into the public discourse space. Their views/ideological leanings are given air time.
In a liberal democracy, the forces do their jobs quietly, efficiently and are not seen or heard.

By not seen or heard, i do not mean they have no voice. Just that the interaction is with the Civilian Leadership behind closed doors. Rarely do those views and leanings appear in the media or public discourse.
