Bonnie Nozari keynote #motorspeech2020 starts now
“So apparently you guys don’t believe in morphemes” #motorspeech2020
Nozari: Getting from semantics to motor speech requires multiple mappings. Linear mappings work if the system is serial BUT its not. #motorspeech2020
nozari: pear maps lexically with kale, while bear maps with whale. They swap partners for motor mapping and the pairs become pear/bear and kale/whale - the mapping and subsequent activation is bidirectional. #motorspeech2020
Nozari: Both lexically similar and phonemically similar distractor items interfere with spontaneous naming #motorspeech2020
Nozari: Existing motor speech models such a DIVA or Hickok 2012 start at the sound level #motorspeech2020
Panel time Maas asks about priming vs interference. Nozari showed that the early studies showing priming were only with onset manipulation. Onset overlap facilitation only works when the speaker uses it to start the production in anticipation of the coda. #motorspeech2020
Seems phonological priming is the less common phenomena and is specific to one place in the word. #motorspeech2020
Houde comments that its hard to see how these work at the phrase level. Nozari suggests that there are multiple buffers across the layers of processing.#motorspeech2020
Bohland suggests that #DIVA model is working somewhat asynchronously until implementation and therefore has the buffering issue sorted. #motorspeech2020
Nozari- we should not use the idea that the feedback goes all the way up Levelt’s model - to do this is not supported by the reaction time we have to our speech errors #motorspeech2020
Nozari’s publications are listed here cmu.edu/dietrich/psych…
Houde asks is there a dose or delay effect on the disruptions caused by semantic or phonemically similar primes? Nozari- depends on the deficit. Paper here cmu.edu/dietrich/psych… #motorspeech2020
.@LizHellerMurray asks how this all applies to children? Nozari says these two traditions are also separate in development ping @NatalieMunro3 @DrEliseBaker @hstorkel Says these effects are robust about the age of six but thats about all she knows #motorspeech2020
My comment here; clearly those in the “adult” motor speeh modelling world are not aware of the work by Hayo Terband, Lian Nijland, Ben Maassen et al #motorspeech2020
